Garage Makeover 2025 | Before & After

Organized garage makeover with steel cabinets, workbench, work table and tall storage cabinet

Our garage wasn’t terrible, but it was dated, weathered and not functional for our needs. With all the renovation projects we’ve been tackling, we needed a more practical workspace. We also wanted a better system for organizing our garage items, because we (my husband) have a lot of things.

The Before

The first step was taking everything out of the garage and adding a fresh coat of paint to the walls and ceiling. I didn’t want the garage to feel totally sterile by going with pure white so I chose White Dove by Benjamin Moore, a warm but still bright and neutral white.

Next we picked up some shelving and totes from Home Depot. The shelves were pretty easy to set up, and then it was a matter of transferring all of our stuff into the bins. I used some tags to label each tote so we could easily know how to find things. This made such a huge difference in keeping our garage items neatly organized and off the ground, which made my OCD perfectionist brain so happy!

I originally wanted to paint and repurpose the existing cabinets in the garage, but one day we came home to one of the cabinets completely on the ground, which was the push we needed to get this garage project started. We decided to just start fresh and replace with more heavy duty cabinets that could handle what we needed to store in the garage instead of the crappy particle board cabinets we had before..

We chose the Gladiator cabinets from Home Depot, which are made from a hammered steel and much more heavy duty than what we had before. They hang on their GearTrack channel that is installed into the studs, making it super easy to install and gives the ability to hang the cabinets exactly where you want them.

We also added a work table/desk to match the height of the workbench and a tall storage cabinet. This allowed us to store so many more things and was much more functional for what we needed. While not the most beautiful garage, this works really well for us right now. We hope to get these ugly, crumbling floors refinished next!

The After

Stay tuned for phase 2 of this garage makeover where we will be doing a much needed do-over of the garage floors!
