As part of the shower remodel in my basement bathroom I wanted to include the shower pan and give it a refresh of its own. The once white shower pan was off white at best with a variety of stains and imperfections that couldn’t be removed with a thorough clean alone (I tried).
The Before

Instead of replacing the shower pan or doing anything drastic I opted to use a product I found that could paint over the existing shower pan. It is made of epoxy and specifically designed for showers and tubs. I just gave the shower pan a thorough clean beforehand and I was ready to start my project. I’m all for easy, quick and affordable solutions!

All you need is the kit, a paint pale, paint brush, small roller brush, and I highly recommend using a respirator so you’re not breathing in the chemical fumes (this stuff stinks!). I started in one corner with my roller and applied long, even strokes around the shower pan. I used my angled brush for the edges around the shower pan and drain.

The side by side comparison of the shower pan and the paint application is wild to me! It shows you just how gross the shower pan was before. This part is so satisfying to watch the old stains disappear!

After applying the first coat I let it cure overnight and then repeated the process with a second and third coat the days following. Depending on your project only two coats might be enough, but I opted to do three for mine. I also recommend keeping the door shut and window open or bathroom fan on while using this product so it doesn’t stink up the rest of your house!

Once my shower pan was cured I finished off the project by adding a new drain cover so everything was fresh and new. The longest part of this project was waiting for the product to dry in between coats. The actual time it took to paint each coat was very quick and easy! This was the perfect solution to refresh my shower pan with minimal time, effort and cost, And what a transformation it made!
